77 Squadron Association’s Reunion 2019 takes place the weekend of 14th and 15th September at the Yorkshire Air Museum and Allied Air Forces Memorial at Elvington, near York.
We very much hope that our President, Professor and former pilot, Bill Ballantyne, will be with us again. On Saturday we will as usual have a short wreath-laying ceremony at our memorial followed by a reception and dinner. The after-dinner speaker this year is Dr John Wright, honorary archivist at the Yorkshire Air Museum and he will be telling us more about the history of the squadron and its origins in the First World War. On Sunday we are pleased that the Revd Taff Morgan (a former RAF Tornado navigator) and the museum chaplain will be leading a service for us in the chapel at 10.30. Taff is always a delight and always speaks with relevance and insights into the experience of aircrew.
On Saturday afternoon there is an opportunity for nine people to enter and have a tour of the unique Handley Page Halifax bomber, ‘Friday the Thirteenth’ for just £10.00 each (The normal price is for an indvidual is £150!). This is an amazing experience and not to be missed. It’s on a first come, first served basis, but we need to know finally two weeks before the event, or earlier if you want to be sure to be included. You do need to be physically fit to be able to clamber inside however. Any queries, please contact us.
This is a very important way of getting together to commemorate our squadron, particulary as it was disbanded so many years ago so has no connection with the existing Royal Air Force. We look forward to seeing you!
The booking form is in the documents box to the right of this page. The price for the dinner is £30 for members of the Association and their guests and £36 for non-members.
